Sometimes...

가슴 안에 돌덩이를 담아놓은 것처럼, 때론 사는 일이 먹먹하기만 할 때가 있다. 창밖을 바라보아도 여느 때의 풍경과 같지 않고, 동쪽으로 향하는 아침길의 눈부신 햇살도 여느 때와 같지 않다.

시간은 여전히 흘러간다.

오늘의 태양은 어제의 그것과 다르며, 내일 아침에 또 다시 떠오를 태양 역시 그럴 것이다. 맥박처럼 쉬지 않는 시간은 아무 것도 기다려 주지 않는다. 그저 흘러만 갈 뿐이다.

그 한 가운데 던져진 우리는, 맥박이 뛰는 동안은 야속한 세월과 씨름해야 할 뿐이다.

세상 모든 노래와 시로 노래해 보아도, 정작 존재하지 않는 메아리만 울려댈 뿐이다.

그래서일까? 워즈워스도 그 영광이 사라져 버렸음을 탄식하는 것으로 끝을 내고 말았다.

어떤 때는 그래서, 가만히 그리고 아주 조용히, 귀를 기울여야 한다.

바람 속에 속삭이는 세미한 소리를.
